Teacher Note: these activities were created to:

  • Meet the language outcomes for students, in Grades 7-9/10, outlined by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
  • Develop a hierarchy of thinking skills as laid out in Bloom's Taxonomy.
  • Offer students of differing multiple intelligences varying processes and products.

Here are samples from the Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines that would apply particularly well to the novel study of this book:

  • describe information, ideas and opinions from different cultures and historical periods.
  • select and read texts for different purposes in exploring human experiences and values.
  • explain how readers' different backgrounds might influence the way they understand and interpret a text. ( for example compare group members' personal responses)
  • explain differences in how individual readers perceive examples of stereotyping in texts
