The Commission Process
A project starts with a direct conversation, usually over the phone, with either a home or business owner or their designer/art consultant. Since we have done so many projects my partner or I are able to give a good idea of price and delivery time after asking a few key questions.
I always prefer to see the space and have traveled thousands of
miles just to do so. When the interior does not yet exist, I am able to
work from drawings and samples quite successfully as well.
The next step is a proposal drawing. For my wall hangings this is generally a colour drawing and samples, but my 3-D extravaganzas require a 3-D model or maquette. My fee for proposals usually ranges from $200 to $500 and is deductible from the subsequent purchase. I have had no problem communicating my ideas over the years and can gratefully claim that I have had no unhappy or dissatisfied clients.
Pricing is always an important issue. Generally though, budget becomes one of the design parameters. Over the years I have developed many different techniques to deliver my designs and have found that it is very rare that something can't be done at all.
Upon agreement of the design and price (which always includes installation) a deposit of 33% to 50% is required with the remainder due on delivery.
