Functional and Architectural

Art Director - Barb MacLeod

The most common functional commissions that I do are window coverings. Generally they are presented as chain driven roller shades with a valance. I use various sheer fabrics and a combination of fused appliquŽ and air-bushed techniques to create images and atmospheres. My work has also been used to conceal elevator control panels and storage areas on a custom designed private railway saloon-car. One very satisfying project was to create airbrushed banners that hung instead of a traditional dropped ceiling in a basement medical clinic. The imagery was sky & clouds and successfully brought some of the great outdoors into a windowless environment for less than it would cost to provide and install the dropped tile ceiling.

Decorative Sound Control

Art Director - Barb MacLeod

Over the years since 1974 when I did my first commission I have been consistently asked about the sound control properties of my work. My partner and I have recently researched the sound control industry and now promote my ability to provide decorative sound control particularly in conjunction with ceiling panels that we cover with various decorator fabrics.

To do sound control projects we have changed the stuffing materials for my wall hangings. As a result from the front my work looks the same as always, but from the side the hangings are thicker. Most of the images throughout my gallery section could have been created specifically for sound control. Similar semi-rigid acoustical materials are used for the ceiling panels.

We also incorporate Acoustical Evaluations performed by an engineering firm specializing in acoustics, noise and vibration control. The resulting report guides us as to the amount of sound control product necessary to introduce into a given area to drastically reduce reverberation and hence improve the sound quality of the area.

The signature difference between our sound control and what is typically available on the market is that my projects don't look like there is sound control being utilized.
